Extract from aloe vera has been used in a variety of creams, ointments, gels, lotions and shampoos. It has been suggested that aloe vera gel is useful for the treatment of mild burns, and in promoting wound healing as a result of antiseptic, anaesthetic, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and moisturising properties.

Although recent clinical studies have provided mixed findings about its effectiveness in the treatment of frostbite, wound healing and cuts, its topical use appears to be nontoxic.
